Shabana Azmi is an noted film, television actress and theatre artist. She was born in Hyderabad, India on September 18, 1950. She earned her graduation degree in Psychology from 'St. Xavier's College' in Mumbai and also did a course in 'Film and Television Institute of India'. In 1974, she made her film debut with film, 'Ankur' and became a nationwide celebrity. She also received National Film Award for her acting in the film. After her initial success, she followed her career with three superhit films 'Arth' in 1982, 'Khandahar' in 1984 and 'Paar' in 1984. She also received three National film awards for these films. She has done acting in many different genre films, Film 'Fire' in 1996 won her 'Silver Hugo Award for Best Actress' and 'Jury Award for best Actress'. Her other films through which she got nationwide recognition includes 'Amar Akbar Anthony', 'Masoom', 'Junoon', 'Sparsh', 'Paar', 'Arth', and 'Shatranj Ke Khiladi'. In addition to Hindi films, she has also starred in Hollywood films such as 'City of Joy' and 'Madame Sousatzka'. Shabana is also known as a social activist and she stands for many social issues. Apart from all these, she is the 'Goodwill Ambassador' of the 'United Nations Population Fund' and she has been a member of 'National Integration Council' since 1989. Shabana is married to the scriptwriter, poet, lyricist, 'Javed Akhtar'. Javed Akhtar has one daughter and one son from his former marriage.
