ABS is undoubtedly the most important feature that a motorcycle should have in the present day riding conditions. The bikes are getting more powerful day by day and the power requires technology to get handled in the best possible way.
Most manufacturers offer ABS on big bikes while the same is seen missing from Indian performance bikes from a long time. Many brands have taken a step forward and today, you have the option of ABS on a total of six motorcycles that can be bought under INR 2.5 lakh. TVS is one of the oldest players that offer ABS on its Apache RTR 180 as an option.
The same is even the most affordable motorcycle to carry this safety feature and comes with ex-showroom price of INR 91,400. Next comes Suzuki Gixxer SF, the most affordable full-faired bike in India to be equipped with ABS. It was recently launched at INR 99,000.Next one is Bajaj Pulsar RS200, carrying just single channel ABS and priced at INR 1,33,800. Bajaj could have offered dual channel ABS as the unit was ready and perfectly working on the bigger Dominar 400.
Using single channel ABS increases the risk of skidding as the rider can accidentally hard press the rear brake and slip away from the uneven surface. Bajaj Dominar 400 is powered by a bigger 373.2 cc, single cylinder engine producing 35 PS and 35 Nm of torque. It even comes with dual channel ABS as an option.
Apart from these 4 bikes, KTM RC390 and KTM 390 Duke are offered with dual channel ABS. RC 390 is priced at INR 2,34,300 and Duke 390 is available for INR 2,29,500. Prices mentioned here are ex-showroom Delhi.
Both the KTM motorcycles are offered with Bosch dual channel unit as standard. Government is working on few measures to mandate ABS on bikes over certain engine sizes. The bikes under 150 cc would most probably get standard combination braking system in India.
