She belongs to an army family and has an elder brother, who is also serving in Merchant Navy. She did her schooling from Army School and graduation from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore. Later, she moved to Mumbai to pursue her career in modelling.

In 2008, she signed three films contract with director Aditya Chopra. She made her debut in acting with the movie 'Rab Ne Bana De Jodi' opposite Shah Rukh Khan.
