It was launched in the year 1990. Now its fifth generation has taken on the market. It was marketed as the Lantra in Australia previously. It was marketed with the same name in other European markets too. This was done because of several reasons. There was disagreement among other motor manufacturers and Elantra was the name that was finally put up. It was standardized as the Elantra in the world wide market in the year 2001.
