General information and overview

The GT250R is a full‑fairing 249cc V‑twin sportbike imported into India by Garware Hyosung that stands out for its big‑bike styling, V‑twin engine character, electronic fuel injection and a chassis tuned more for highway stability than razor‑sharp cornering. Key hardware includes twin front discs, a chunky rear tyre (150/70), and a riding posture that is sporty yet not extreme, making long rides comfortable and high‑speed cruising effortless thanks to a relaxed midrange and tall gearing reported in ride tests. Criticisms reported from Indian reviews and owners include conservative low‑to‑midrange punch relative to some rivals, fit‑and‑finish and panel gap issues, absence of modern electronic aids on many examples, and a premium price at launch that reduced its competitiveness versus Japanese 250cc options. If you value distinctive V‑twin sound, visual presence and touring comfort in India, the GT250R delivers a unique package; if you need the best city manoeuvrability, lowest ownership cost or the most advanced safety kit, consider those priorities before deciding.

The Hyosung GT250R stands out in India as a full-faired 249cc V-twin sportbike mimicking 600cc superbikes, boasting around 30hp at 10,500rpm for explosive 0-60kmph in 4 seconds and top speeds touching 150kmph on open roads, with smooth linear delivery ideal for highway cruising at 100-140kmph effortlessly. Its aggressive riding posture, large presence, and characterful V-twin rumble deliver unmatched thrill and stability in corners, backed by confidence-inspiring handling and flawless EFI for refined performance over 200+km rides. Key aspects include amazing looks drawing compliments, decent pickup for overtakes, and good mileage of 25-30kmpl, though the crouched ergonomics suit tours better than congested cities, lacking ABS hurts in wet Indian roads, and weight plus panel gaps show in tight traffic. For buyers, it's the best 250cc for superbike feel, refined power, and value if service access fits your area.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the Hyosung GT250R to be a compelling choice if you prioritise the presence, V‑twin character and highway composure of a big‑bike in a quarter‑litre package; the bike looks and feels larger than most 250cc rivals and rewards open‑road riding with relaxed, linear V‑twin performance and strong straight‑line stability according to multiple road tests and owner reports. The trade‑offs that will influence my recommendation are its middling low‑to‑mid torque compared with some rivals, some fit-and-finish issues and chassis feel that prefers steady speed over aggressive cornering, which makes it less suited to tight city traffic and sporting track use. I would recommend it to a buyer who values distinctive engine character, long‑haul comfort and presence over cutting‑edge handling, electronic aids (ABS is absent on many examples) or the lowest possible purchase price — qualities corroborated by specialist reviews and owner feedback in India.

December 12, 2025

I find the Hyosung GT250R a standout choice for riders craving superbike thrills in the 250cc segment in India, with its V-twin engine delivering smooth, linear power around 30 horsepower that propels it to 140-150 kmph top speeds effortlessly on highways, making weekend blasts and long rides genuinely exciting. The full fairing and aggressive posture give it a commanding presence like a 600cc machine, and the refined torque from the V-twin feels characterful, pulling strongly from low revs for confident overtakes at 100 kmph in top gear without stress. Handling inspires trust on twisties despite its weight, and the electronic fuel injection ensures flawless performance over long stretches. However, the sporty crouched position tires in city traffic, there's no ABS unlike rivals, and panel gaps plus heavier build demand realistic expectations over outright agility. For me, it's ideal if you prioritize presence, sound, and highway prowess over daily commuting, offering unmatched value in looks and feel at its price point, though service network limitations mean planning maintenance carefully enhances ownership joy.

Pricing details and changes

I see historic launch and market pricing for the GT250R in India clustered around Rs.2.5–2.75 lakh ex‑showroom when it was sold through Garware Hyosung dealerships, and buyers and forums have reported on‑road costs rising above Rs.3 lakh after taxes, insurance and registration depending on state levies. Dealers and reviews at launch warned that the GT250R sat at a premium over mainstream 250cc rivals, which tempered its value proposition for many buyers accustomed to better spec-per‑rupee from Japanese alternatives. If you’re evaluating a purchase today I would factor in higher running spare/servicing costs and possibly limited dealer network support versus mainstream brands, and I’d expect used prices to vary widely by condition and service history given the niche ownership base reported in India.

December 12, 2025

In India, the Hyosung GT250R's ex-showroom price hovered around 2.75 lakh rupees when launched, but current 2025 listings suggest it's scarce new, pushing buyers toward used markets where well-maintained examples from 2015-2020 models fetch 1.5-2.5 lakh depending on condition and location. On-road pricing back then added 10-15% for insurance, registration, and taxes, easily crossing 3 lakh in major cities like Delhi or Mumbai, which deterred many against pricier rivals like the Honda CBR250R. I view this as a smart buyer's opportunity today—its premium V-twin superbike stance and performance justify the initial outlay for enthusiasts, but factor in higher insurance due to the sporty category and potential import parts costs that could inflate servicing beyond typical 250cc bikes. Compared to modern ABS-equipped competitors now over 3.5 lakh on-road, the GT250R delivers superior presence and power per rupee, especially used, making it a compelling entry into big-bike ownership without breaking the bank, provided you scout low-mileage units from reliable sellers.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

I get 25-30 kmpl real-world from the GT250R in mixed Indian conditions, solid for a 250cc V-twin sportbike, keeping running costs reasonable at about 3-4 rupees per km on premium fuel. It's highway-friendly for cost-conscious touring but dips in city stop-go, so prioritize it if your rides skew long-distance over urban grind.

Vehicle Overview
Hyosung GT250R carries a real superbike look and promises sure shot attention whenever you arrive at a certain place. Its front dual disc brakes, projector headlights, huge tank and fairing makes it the best looking machine in most of the parking spaces. The only problem comes when you see its performance from the 249cc, twin cylinder engine that is good for 28 BHP and 22.07 Nm of torque. The show spoiler is its high 188 kg of body weight, providing it the worst 140 kmph of top speed. The gearbox used here is also an old 5-speed unit.
