General information and overview

The Honda CB Unicorn 160 is a no-nonsense commuter motorcycle powered by a 162.71 cc single-cylinder engine producing 13.18 PS and 14.8 Nm of torque. It features a 5-speed manual transmission, a kerb weight of 139 kg, and a fuel tank capacity of 13 litres. The bike is built for comfort and efficiency with its upright riding posture, front disc and rear drum brakes, and single-shock rear suspension that absorbs city road imperfections well. The digital instrument cluster, though basic, provides all essential information including a service due indicator and trip meter. Available in shades like gloss black, gloss red, and matte grey, it retains a classic and understated design. The CB Unicorn’s strong suit is its smooth engine and impressive fuel efficiency, making it a trusted choice for daily commuting in urban and semi-urban India. Its lack of major updates over the years reflects Honda’s focus on proven mechanical reliability rather than styling trends or gadgetry.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Honda CB Unicorn continues to be a reliable and practical choice for commuters seeking a smooth ride and excellent fuel efficiency. Its 162.71 cc engine offers balanced performance with a power output of about 13.18 PS and 14.8 Nm torque, making it well-suited for city and occasional highway use. The bike excels with its comfortable upright seating, single-shock suspension, and manageable weight of 139 kg, which together ensure a stable and gentle ride experience. While the design has remained largely unchanged over the years, the bike’s focus on reliability and fuel economy keeps it relevant for budget-conscious riders. However, it lacks the latest tech features that some rivals offer, making it a straightforward and dependable commuter rather than a flashy choice. Overall, it is a solid option if you prioritize mileage, comfort, and Honda's trusted build quality over modern styling and advanced features.

December 9, 2025

The Honda CB Unicorn 160 presents itself as a reliable, smooth, and efficient commuter bike that balances performance and everyday usability well. Its 162.7cc air-cooled engine delivers a refined ride with a modest 13 bhp power and 14.58 Nm torque, making it ideal for both city traffic and occasional highway runs. The bike’s handling is confident thanks to a front disc brake and rear drum setup, while the suspension—especially the rear monoshock—absorbs road imperfections comfortably. The digital instrument cluster adds a touch of modernity, and features like a USB Type-C charging port enhance practicality. While it lacks advanced ride modes or ABS, its straightforward nature appeals to riders seeking a fuss-free, economical daily commuter with respectable build quality and smooth power delivery. Overall, the Unicorn 160 stands out for its usability, comfort, and fuel efficiency, aligning well with urban and semi-urban Indian conditions.

Recent news and announcements

The Honda Unicorn now comes with a PGM-FI (fuel injection) system to comply with BS-VI emission standards. The bike is available in one variant and three colors: Pearl Igneous Black, Imperial Red Metallic, and Mat Axis Gray Metallic. This update ensures the bike is more efficient and environmentally friendly.

August 13, 2024

The 2024 Honda Unicorn features a 162.7cc motor that develops 12.7bhp and 14Nm of torque, making it compliant with BS-VI emission norms. The bike is priced at Rs. 1.1 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The bikes design remains largely unchanged, focusing on its commuter appeal.

August 13, 2024

A recent review highlighted the comfort and tractability of the Honda Unicorn 160, especially for city riding. The bikes ability to reach 5th gear at 25 km/h with a pillion is praised, making it ideal for dense city traffic. However, the lack of rear ABS and outdated design are noted as drawbacks.

August 13, 2024

The Honda Unicorn has been praised for its low-end torque and smooth engine feel up to 5,000 rpm, making it suitable for city driving. The addition of front ABS is also appreciated, although the absence of rear ABS is a notable omission. I believe the bikes overall performance justifies its popularity.

For instance, in Bangalore, the on-road price is approximately ₹1.44 lakh, while in cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Hyderabad, it ranges around ₹1.34 lakh. This pricing positions the Unicorn competitively in the entry-level commuter segment, slightly higher than some 125 cc alternatives but justified by its 160 cc engine and reputed Honda reliability. From an ownership perspective, this price bracket makes it economical for daily commuting, especially given the low running costs and strong resale value. Though it doesn't come loaded with premium tech features, its pricing reflects its purpose as a comfortable and efficient commuter bike rather than a premium sports or lifestyle motorcycle.

In India, the Honda CB Unicorn 160 is priced at approximately ₹1.19 lakh ex-showroom. On-road prices, including insurance, road tax, and registration, generally range between ₹1.30 to ₹1.35 lakh depending on the city and dealer. This price positioning makes it competitive in the 160cc commuter segment, slightly higher than some rivals but justifiable through Honda’s reputation for refinement and dependability. The single variant offering simplifies the buying decision, providing value without confusing trim choices. Considering its feature set and low maintenance burden, the price appears reasonable for buyers prioritizing reliability and smooth ride quality over aggressive styling or high-tech gadgetry.

This makes it highly economical for Indian commuting conditions, particularly for city riders concerned with fuel costs. The bike’s fuel-efficient engine combined with Honda Eco Technology ensures that running costs remain low, an important factor when considering total cost of ownership. If mileage is your priority, the Unicorn stands strong among 160 cc bikes without compromising on ride quality.

December 9, 2025

The Honda CB Unicorn 160 offers an ARAI-certified mileage of around 60 to 62 kmpl, which is commendable in the 160cc category.
