Vidya Balan is an Indian popular actress. She was born on January 1, 1978 in the town of Kerala, Ottapalam. Her father P. R. Balan is the Executive Vice-President of Digicable and mother Saraswathy Balan is a homemaker. She has done her schooling from 'St. Anthony Girls High School' and completed her graduation from 'St. Xavier's College'. She has one elder sister, who is working in the field of advertising, Priya Balan. She started her journey of acting through the sitcom, 'Hum Paanch'. Apart from Bengali and Malayalam films, she primarily appears in Hindi Bollywood films. She made several unsuccessful attempts to start a career in film. Vidya Balan eventually starred in various music videos and television commercials, before making her film debut with the independent Bengali drama 'Bhalo Theko' in 2003. In Bollywood, she debuted with film 'Parineeta', which fetched her 'Best Debut Female Award' and a nomination for Best Actress at the 'Filmfare Awards ceremony'. After that she is seen in 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai', 'Salaam-e-Ishq, Eklavya: The Royal Guard'. While, Vidya Balan subsequently received negative comments in the film 'Heyy Babyy' and 'Kismat Konnection'. In 2009, she has marked the most successful film of her career, 'Paa', 'Ishqiya', 'No One Killed Jessica', 'The Dirty Picture', and 'Kahaani'. These roles have established her as one of the leading contemporary actresses of Bollywood cinema. Besides acting, Vidya is active in social affairs. She is also awarded with, 'The Prabha Khaitan Puraskar 2012', for her attempts to empower women. She is the brand ambassador, for improving the sanitary condition. In 2012, she has tied a knot, with the CEO of UTV Motion Pictures, Siddharth Roy Kapur.
