Rekha is a prominent Indian actress well known for the roles in Hindi cinema. She was born as 'Bhanurekha Ganesan' in Madras, India on October 10, 1954. She is noted for playing a variety of characters in a range of film genres from contemporary romantic comedies to crime dramas. She started her acting career at the age of 13 with Telugu language movie 'Rangula Ratnam' in year 1966 to support her family financially. She made her Bollywood film debut in year 1970 with Hindi language film 'Sawan Bhadon'. The film was hit and gained her national attention. Post her successful debut in Hindi films, she starred in various other films but she failed to achieve her name in the list of leading actress. She came into limelight with 1978 film 'Ghar' and 'Muqaddar Ka Sikandar' which also won her Filmfare Award nominations. She was first awarded with the 'Filmfare Award in best actress category for 1980 film 'Khoobsurat'. This was marked as her career's turning point. Since then, she has worked in several Hindi films of 80s, 90s and 2000s. In addition to acting, she joined politics and became member of parliament in year 2012. The Government of India also awarded her with the fourth highest civilian award, 'Padma Shri' in year 2010. On her personal front, she was married to 'Mukesh Agarwal' who died in 1991. She is also linked with actor 'Amitabh Bachchan' for their love relationship.
