Mountains: About
A mountain could be defined as landform which stretches above the surrounding land in a limited area as the form of a peak. It is generally vertical than a hill. Mountains are made of earth and rocks. The outer layer of earth known as Earth’s Crust is composed of seven primary plates. When any two plates of them move or smash together, vast land areas are uplifted and thus mountains are formed. Whether a landform would be called a mountain or not depends upon its usage of human beings. Again, a mountain also depends upon its height. There are four heights to identify whether a landform is a mountain or not. They are: height over base to at least 2,500m (8,202ft), height over base to 1,500m (4,921 ft) - 2,500m (8,202 ft) with a slope greater than 2 degrees, height over base of 1000m (3,281 ft) – 1,500m (4,921 ft) with a slope greater than 5 degrees and local { radius 7,000m (22,966 ft) elevation greater than 300m (984 ft) or 300m (984 ft) – 1,000m (3,281 ft).
