Christmas is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ. This day is celebrated on December 25 by millions of people around the world. This festival mainly belongs to Christians. Christmas Day is a gazetted holiday in India.
People celebrate this day by attending special church services, wearing colourful clothes and spending time with their relatives and family members. Many families exchange gifts and sweets to children. People decorate their homes with mango and banana leaves. Christmas tree is decorated with stockings, lights and ornaments.
Christmas cracker was invented by 'Thomas Smith' and the first 'Christmas Stamp' was issued in Canada in 1989. In Victorian England, the Postman who brought Christmas cards was known by the name of 'Robins'. St. Francis of Assisi introduced Christmas Carols to formal church services. People sing 'Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell' song on this occasion and this song was composed by 'James Pierpont'.
